This method is similar to cleaning shoes and will just require a brush and some laundry detergent. After washing bring out the wool hat and rinse with cool water. Err on the side of cool versus hot. Stick to swishing and squeezing motions since scrubbing twisting or rubbing could stretch or damage the fabric.
As it s filling add a tablespoon of laundry detergent or oxiclean. Hang it out to dry in a sunny place. For tough stains leave the hat in the cleaning solution for a few minutes. Dish soap can do in a pinch but detergent or a dedicated stain fighting treatment like oxiclean is stronger and works harder at getting the stains out of the hat s fibers. Then let the laundry soak in the sink for three to four minutes.
Place the hat on a clean towel and pat it down until there is no more water dripping.
