How To Clean Iron Cookware
Since cast iron pans can handle heavy duty cooking you might have a bit of a mess to clean up when you re done cooking but don t worry no matter how you prefer ot clean your pan it can take it.
How to clean iron cookware. You are supposed to clean the leftover food grease and gunk from cast iron without putting it in the sink or dishwasher. Simply use hot water and wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel. Dry thoroughly you should dry your cast iron cookware as quickly as possible to avoid water soaking into the surface and causing it to rust. For stubborn stuck on food simmer a little water for 3 5 minutes then use the scraper after the pan has cooled. To be extra sure the cast iron is dry place it on a hot burner and let it warm up so any water will evaporate.
Cleaning cast iron cookware is the trickiest of all utensils because they should never be washed clean. Wash your cookware with dish soap and a stiff bristle dish brush but don t soak it. Start off with adding a little dish soap dime sized drop to be exact to the skillet. Take it back to the burner and turn on. Then dry the cast iron item carefully with a dishcloth and store it in a dry place.
Give it a light scrub with as little soap as possible. To clean a cast iron skillet the traditional way rinse the skillet out with hot water then pour more water into the skillet and bring it to a boil. Using dish soap on cast iron has its perks and flaws. To clean enameled cast iron wash it with hot soapy water just as you would with any other cookware. After the water has boiled for several minutes lightly scrape the bottom and the sides of the skillet with a wide spatula to dislodge any remaining food scraps.
To clean cast iron cookware use a plastic scrubber and hot water to remove food. Make sure the liquid reaches the bottom properly. You can use a small amount of soap. Wash your cast iron cookware by hand. But when your cast iron needs a refresh follow this dry cleaning method.
If there are pesky stains on the inside of the pot that won t go away after a thorough cleaning bring water to a gentle simmer in the pan on the stove with either a small amount of dish soap or baking soda then scrub and rinse carefully says nate collier of le creuset.
